My dream of continuing with my education became a reality five years after graduating from high school. I began my educational journey as an immigrant 3rd grade elementary student who spoke no English and continued as a non-traditional student in a community college. I have now completed coursework for a M.S. in Community Counseling. In November of 2007, I joined Life-Work Planning Center and began working with Latina youth. It gives me great pleasure to work for an organization that offers gender and culture specific services to Latina girls. Although, I have experienced similar difficulties and barriers to some of those experienced by the youth I work with; living in Minnesota offers Latina youth unique challenges, experiences, and opportunities. It is a great privilege to continue my professional journey at Life-Work Planning Center and to be able to serve as a leader and role model for a younger generation of Latina girls! |
